Use Recovr from Claude, ChatGPT and Codex

Connect your AI assistant to your Recovr account. Ask which members are at risk of cancelling, read their attendance and message history, and draft outreach in your gym's voice, without leaving the assistant.

Things people ask:

  • “Who's at risk of cancelling this week?”
  • “Why did we lose so many members in March?”
  • “Draft a message to Sarah. She hasn't been in for a month.”
  • “Show me conversations waiting on a reply.”

BEFORE YOU START

  • A Recovr staff account with access to your gym's location.
  • Claude Code, Codex, or an assistant that can add a custom connector. Claude supports custom connectors on every plan including Free, which allows one; on Team and Enterprise an organisation owner adds the connector once and everyone else connects to it.

The first time your assistant uses Recovr, a browser window opens. Sign in to Recovr, choose the location, then Allow. No API keys are stored in your assistant.

The server URL, for any tool that asks for one:

https://retention-backend.recovr.com/mcp

That is Recovr's production server, and a connection to it reads and writes real member data. If you are testing a preview or staging deployment, use that deployment's own backend URL instead of this one.

INSTALL THE PLUGIN

The plugin connects Recovr and adds four skills that guide your assistant through it. It is the quickest way to start in Claude Code and Codex.

  • Member lookup Finds members and explains their cancellation risk, health score, attendance and history.
  • Analytics Answers attendance, cancellation and trial conversion questions from your Recovr data.
  • Messaging Finds replies you owe and drafts messages; sends only after you approve the exact text.
  • Follow-up Flags, snoozes or assigns members and logs notes, confirming each change.

OR CONNECT DIRECTLY

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers can connect with the server URL above. Adding it opens a sign-in page: sign in, pick the location this connection can use, then Allow.

Claude Code

  1. Run claude mcp add --transport http recovr https://retention-backend.recovr.com/mcp in your terminal.
  2. Run /mcp in Claude Code, choose Recovr, and sign in.
  3. Pick the location and Allow. Recovr's tools are then available in that session.

Add --scope local (the default) for this project only, --scope project to write a shared .mcp.json for the team, or --scope user for every project on this machine. If you have already added Recovr in Claude on the web and sign in to Claude Code with the same Claude account, it also appears in /mcp without running the command.

Claude (web and desktop)

  1. In claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector, paste the server URL, and add it. Leave any OAuth client ID and secret fields blank; Recovr handles sign-in itself.
  3. Complete sign-in, pick the location, and Allow.
  4. In a chat, open the + menu, then Connectors, and turn Recovr on.

Remote connectors live under Customize, Connectors — not claude_desktop_config.json. On Team and Enterprise an organisation Owner adds Recovr once under Organization settings, Connectors (Add, then Custom, then Web), and everyone else then finds it under Customize, Connectors and clicks Connect.

Once Recovr is listed in the Claude Connectors Directory, you can add it from the directory under Customize, Connectors instead of pasting the URL. Sign-in is the same.

ChatGPT

  1. Open ChatGPT Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add Connector and paste the server URL.
  3. Complete sign-in, pick the location, and Allow.

The ChatGPT desktop app can also add Recovr under Settings, MCP servers, as a Streamable HTTP server.

Codex

  1. Add Recovr to ~/.codex/config.toml (or a project .codex/config.toml).
  2. Run codex mcp login recovr and complete sign-in.
  3. Pick the location and Allow. The Codex CLI, the IDE extension and the ChatGPT desktop app share this config.
[mcp_servers.recovr]
url = "https://retention-backend.recovr.com/mcp"

VS Code and other MCP clients

VS Code, Windsurf and most other MCP clients take the same HTTP URL. After you save, the first Recovr tool call should open sign-in.

PERMISSIONS AND SAFETY

  • One location. Each connection can only see the location you choose when you sign in.
  • Read and write access. Read covers clients, conversations, attendance, analytics and team members. Write covers flagging, snoozing, assigning, logging interactions, and drafting and sending messages.
  • Careful with messages. Drafting and sending are separate steps: a draft comes back to you to approve, edit or discard, and sending it is a separate call, marked as an action that cannot be undone so your assistant should ask you first. Bulk messaging is not available through the connection.
  • Disconnect any time. Remove Recovr from your assistant's connector list to stop that assistant using it. That does not revoke the connection on our side — do that from Account, MCP, Connected apps in the Recovr app where your account has it, or by emailing support@recovr.com. See Disconnecting below.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Your assistant says it is not connected, or asks you to sign in again
Sign-in expires, and it also ends if the connection is disconnected in Recovr. Reconnecting is the fix. In Claude on the web or desktop, go to Customize, Connectors, choose Recovr and click Connect. In Claude Code run /mcp, choose Recovr and sign in again. In Codex run codex mcp login recovr again. In ChatGPT, remove Recovr under Settings, Connectors and add it again.
You see the wrong gym, or no data at all
A connection is tied to the single location chosen on the Allow screen, and it cannot be changed afterwards. If your Recovr account belongs to more than one location, the Allow screen shows a Studio list: choose the location you want this assistant to use before you click Allow. If it belongs to one location, that location is named on the screen and there is nothing to choose. To switch locations, or to use a second one, disconnect and connect again, then pick the right location from the list. If the screen says your account is not linked to any studio, ask whoever manages your gym's Recovr account to add you to the location.
“This location's Recovr subscription does not include MCP access”
Your sign-in worked, but the location's Recovr plan does not include the MCP connection, so signing in again will not help. Email support@recovr.com and we will sort it out. If you see “Recovr access could not be confirmed right now” instead, that is temporary: try again in a minute.
“This connection is not authorised to use…”
The connection was approved for reading only, and the tool your assistant reached for writes something. Reconnect and approve write access on the Allow screen.
Cursor cannot complete sign-in
Known issue: Cursor's sign-in callback uses a format our login server does not accept yet, so the connection is refused before the Allow screen. Use Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT or Codex in the meantime.
Nothing happens, or the connection times out
The server has to be reachable from the public internet; a network that blocks outbound HTTPS to retention-backend.recovr.com will stop the connection before sign-in. Check that URL loads in a browser on the same machine, then try again.
Disconnecting

Remove Recovr from your assistant and that assistant stops using it: in Claude, go to Customize, Connectors, choose Recovr and click Remove (an Owner removes an organisation-wide connector under Organization settings, Connectors); in Claude Code run claude mcp remove recovr. That deletes the assistant's copy of the sign-in; it does not revoke the connection on our side.

To revoke it in Recovr, sign in to the Recovr app at the location the connection uses, open Account, then the MCP tab. Under Connected apps, click the delete icon next to the assistant and confirm Disconnect. That takes effect straight away, on the next request the assistant makes. The list shows only the apps you connected yourself, so a colleague disconnects their own. An API key is revoked from the API tab in the same place. If your account does not have those tabs, or you need a colleague's connection ended, email support@recovr.com and we will end it.

PRIVACY

When you ask your assistant a question, Recovr sends the information that answers it to the assistant's provider, such as Anthropic for Claude or OpenAI for ChatGPT and Codex. That can include member names, contact details, attendance and message history for the location you approved.
